If We Had Lunch at the White House

There is this poem called If We Had Lunch at the White House that my class performed for our school read-a-thon. I can't recall who the author is, but you can Google it. We kept some of it the same, and changed it up a bit. Some of it may or may not be true.

If we were invited to the White House for lunch,

Sacora wouldn't be able to steal Boston's chips.

And Cade and Jaxon couldn't squish up their milk cartons,

After they blew bubbles into their milk,

And Tyler and Jaxson couldn't crawl under the table,

Chasing their lost pistachio nuts and M&M's.

And McKenna couldn't say

Her chicken sandwich tasted so yucky,

She would puke if she ate it.

And Madisyn and Brandi would want to pack

More than chips, cookies, and soda for lunch.

And Jessiah and Same couldn't build volcanoes out of their mashed potatoes.

Sometimes we think about

Eating lunch at the White House,

And all the manners we'd need.

And how we'd have to sit very still,

And think before we speak,

And talk in whispers,

And keep our feet on the floor,

And never take a bite--

Not even a tasting bite--

Until everyone had been served.

Maybe someday we'll be ready for lunch at the White House, but not today,

Because at lunch . . .

Colton and Sarah made faces in their mac and cheese!

And Matt sucked Jell-O up a straw!

And Cami frosted her carrot cake with ketchup,

And Emily ate it.

And Kaden and Ryan blew so many bubbles in their milks

That they overflowed, and white, airy foam covered the table,

And the floor, and Sarah and Kyrstin slipped in it,

And Hunter's soda lid sprang off his bottle,

And hit Alex in the face.

And Alexis popped her chips open, and they went all over

Tori and Elijah.

And then, Kaysha lost her balance, and spilled her tray right in Miss Husbands' Face!

And she said, "I don't think we're ready for lunch at the White House . . . yet!"

The kiddos thought this was absolutely hilarious!
